Chowli ( Black Eyed Beans ) Gujarati Style

Black Eye Beans or Chawli is known as different name like Chori, Choli, Chavli, lobia etc in India. I will give you very simple recipe to cook Black Eye Beans without adding too much spices.

2-3 People

Ingredients

Black Eye Beans - 1 Cup
Jaggery / Brown Sugar - 2 Tbsp.
Kokam - 2 or Lemon Juice - 1 - 2 Tsp.
Coriander Powder - 3 Tsp.
Green Chili Cut - 1 Small size
Turmeric Powder - 2 Tsp.

For Vaghar / Tadka
Oil - 1 Tbsp.
Jira - 1 Tsp.
Sesame Seeds - 1 Tsp.
Hing - Pinch
Red Chili Powder - 1 Tsp.

Directions 


Wash Dry Black Eyed Beans

Cook in a Pressure Cooker adding 1½ Cup water.

Let it cool the Cooker.

Heat the pan and add 1 Tbsp. of oil for Vaghar

Add Jira, Sesame Seeds and pinch hing.

Add Red Chili Powder in a Vaghar and immediately add cook Chowli.

Add 3 ½ of water. Stir well.

Add salt, Turmeric Power, Coriander Powder, Jaggery, Lemon Juice or Kokam and Green Chili.

Let it cook around 15 minutes on medium flame or until Black Eyed Beans gravy get little thik.

You can serve with Paratha.
